Tri-Town Shelter Services Provides Mentoring Edward Asner, Alec Baldwin, Harry Belafonte, Tony Bennett, Julia Child, Walter Cronkite, Hugh Downs, Gloria Estefan, Whoopi Goldberg, Tipper Gore, Larry King, Midori, General Colin Powell, Christopher Reeve, and Diane Sawyer. What do these people have in common? Some might say that they are all public figures. Others might say that they are people who have made an impact in their professional endeavors. Yet others would say that they are people who have been influential in the shaping of our world. While these are true, this was not always the case with each of them. Walter Cronkite once said, "No one does anything in life on his own, there are always caring people who shape our lives and our careers, whose influence stays with us for the rest of our lives. Each of these prominent people recall their mentors in the book entitled, The Person Who Changed My Life. This paints a moving portrait of human service, community involvement, and simple compassion. And its stories of success are testimony to the long-lasting impact a mentor can have. A mentor is a positive role model in the life of another. Mentors model before they mentor for they realize that this gives credibility to their presence in the life of another person. A mentor is a person who believes in you and who can look beyond the present. Mentors make bridges out of barriers and stepping stones out of set-backs. With their sincerity, support, and skills mentors empower others to realize their full potential. Mentors are interested in you and are intentional about promoting your personal growth and development. They are real people who are meeting real challenges themselves. Mentors can make a real difference in the life of another adult. Modeling Precedes Mentoring; A Question of Credibility and Integrity Empathy + Encouragement + Education + Equipping = Empowerment Non-Judgmental; The Power of Presence and Reflective Listening Transparency and Vulnerability; Getting Real with Ourselves and Others Optimistic Realism; Holding Out Hope for a Brighter Tomorrow Revisiting Hurts for Healing and Release; Reclaiming & Rewriting Our Lives Increasing Self - Esteem, Self - Confidence and Self - Sufficiency New Skills Acquisition for Character Development and Conduct Grace and Gratitude; You Have Received A Blessing To Be A Blessing |
